Mining Jobs in Australia Are Available

It's also important that people wanting to enter the industry have relevant experience in the area they want to enter in the Australia Mining industry. The market is getting very competitive with some companies getting over 500 applicants or more for one position. Especially with the amount of media that the mining industry is receiving on current affair programs in Australia and New Zealand regarding all the money to be made in the industry. It's making it a lot harder finding position, especially unskilled mining jobs and also finding companies that will take on people with no previous mining experience. It's not as easy as it used to be in entering the mines. More work is being mechanically assisted therefore skilled people are required rather than the old days in the industry when a lot of unskilled positions were available.
Also certain skills and trades are in more demand than others. Mothers and Fathers reading this should take some notes and direct your kid in the right directions when they are planning to leave school and enter the work force or university study. If your kid is not interested in university study and wants to leave school get them into a training scheme with a company that will give them a trade after a few years that will in return earn them over 100,000 a year and only working two thirds of the year in the mining industry in Australia. Also university study can be planned and the end result will be more rewarding. Students with a Mining Engineering Degree's are getting snapped up quicker than they are being graduated. There is an 18% vacancy rate in this area and top students are getting sign on agreements of up to 10,000 dollars like sporting super stars with some of the large mining companies in Australia as well as a 100,000 starting off salary.
Getting back to relevant experience; Mining companies want to hire people that have done the particular job back in the cities and are passionate about their job. Its costs a lot hiring a person, and putting the person through the inductions fully paid and then ongoing training, the last thing they want is the person to quit their job after a few weeks.
A lot of people tell me they have an HR and want to drive trucks? But they don't have any experience driving trucks in the city let alone on a mine site. Agencies won't even look at your application if you don't have mining experience of 2-3 years. A lot of their positions are fly in fly out and are filling a vacancy that is important for production to run properly. If production is not running efficiently, it's going to costs the company money. A lot of the big companies don't have time to train people on the job site any more. This is the same with people wanting to enter the industry as a cleaner on a mining camp. The hiring companies want people are experience in this field as its costs them a lot to train people and put them through inductions. If people have several years experience in this field, it shows the company they are passionate about this job as they want people that are going to stay with them for a long time and are not just using a cleaning job in a mining camp to gain a dump truck job. This is a big NO for the hiring cleaning companies in the mining industry and they have tough interview procedures to stop people entering the cleaning industry with the intention of fining a dump truck job.
The way the mines are going you want 2 -3 years experience in a field in your civilian career. If you want a particular job in the mines its best to start now where you live and get some experience. Even if it means driving buses, it's still related to driving trucks. Bus drivers make good dump truck drivers as they have to be safety conscious during the day which skill is wanted for dump truck drivers to have. This is the same for people that tell me they have driven a digger a few times in the past and planned to get a job driving a digger on a mine site. Hope you have good patience as if this is the only experience you have your going to be waiting for a while. Those diggers on the mine sites are a lot bigger 150 - 700 tonnes. These positions driving dump trucks and diggers are paid well and the employees climbing the company ladder will be getting these positions before you.
It may be easier to find a job with a small sub contractor company that has work on a mine site. They may not pay as much as the big mining companies but they are more likely to hire a person in your situation and this way you get that valuable mining experience.
A lot of the time is who you know in the mining industry, if you met the right people and make a good connection with them. It's easy to find a job any field you like.
There are three job fields in the mining industry in Australia:
University educated mining jobs. Geologists, mine managers etc. Jobs that require university study as important part of the position.
Skilled Worked. Mechanics, wielders, Boiler makers, Drillers, Often requiring a trade or specific training.
Ticket required Jobs. Loader driving jobs, Truck driving, Road trains and dump trucks. Jobs often requiring tickets to show you're skilled in driving particular machinery or vehicles.
It sometimes turns into a cache 22 situation. The companies only want to hire experience people but how do you get that experience if they don't take new comers to the industry on. Answer; 1) Use your friends if you have any that are working in the mines. 2) Some companies run programs in participation with training institutions in the cities where if selected after a 1hour interview you can do one of there courses and then they help you get a job. These organizations can charge up to 4000 dollars and some applicants have waited 4 months for a position. This is very common for the people entering the industry wanting to drive dump trucks. 3) The last option is to take up another position in the mines which provides easy and quick access to get that "mining experience" that companies want. It may not be a position that you want to do for the rest of your life, but it's a position that pays wells and will open the world to the lucrative mining industry.

Best Online Engineering Courses

Online Engineering Courses In The 21st Century

It should not be surprising that engineers are making full use of the internet for educational purposes. Engineering programs are at the forefront of innovative online education.
Engineering Degrees
Many engineering schools offer bachelors degrees, graduate certificates, masters degrees and doctoral degrees online. The standard distance learning colleges offer online engineering courses, but so do some of the best engineering colleges and universities in the country. Unlike other professions, in engineering, an online degree is completely equal to a traditional degree.
Continuing Education
Engineers will find plenty of online engineering courses for continuing education. Most will satisfy continuing education requirements for PE (Professional Engineer) licensure. A lot can be applied toward an advanced degree. You can find online continuing education in any area of engineering-industrial, civil, mining-all of the engineering specialties.
Some universities offer what they call non-credit short courses for engineers, too. These courses allow them to keep up with the latest developments in a fast-changing field without the study time necessary for regular college courses.
In order to improve initial and continuing education for mechanical engineers, the ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) has partnered with several very good, accredited engineering schools to provide online courses in Mechanical Engineering. This is an example of members of the engineering profession ensuring the quality of education for new members of their profession.
One very cool development in online engineering courses is MIT's Open Courseware Program. The program crosses all fields of study, but is especially pertinent to engineers because MIT is the premier engineering school in the country. The Open Courseware Program makes all of MIT's classes available online for free. The school cautions that this is for independent study, and it's not the same as a for-credit MIT class, where there is student-instructor interaction. It is, however, a great learning resource for engineers.
Computers and online education and training are increasingly part of the engineering world. Men and women earn their engineering degrees by taking online courses, and then they earn advanced degrees by taking online engineering courses. They do continuing education online. They use the internet for every facet of engineering education.

A Review on BPO Career

BPO Industry As A Career Option

Taking a look at the current financial crisis, one may not feel too optimistic about business process outsourcing (BPO) industry in India. However Mr. P.G. Raghuraman, Lead Delivery Centers for BPO in India, Accenture, sees the positive aspects in the growth of BPO service providers and also potential for the industry to attract young professionals as their chosen career.
According to Nasscom study, the current size of BPO industry is $11 billion and it is expected to grow by five-fold in size to $50 billion by the year 2012. This growth in Indian BPO will add nearly 2.5 percent to the India's GDP from the export earnings and employment to nearly 2 million people.
There is popular belief that, there are numerous job opportunities but fewer career opportunities in BPO sector. This is not true, the Indian BPO industry has boundless career opportunities. This is evident from the fact that, over the years the BPO services have grown from just voice to other customer relationship management services like human resources, finance and accounting, learning and procurement, animation and multimedia, legal transcription, content development, as well as industry-specific services focusing on the health care, insurance, pharmaceutical and utility industries.
The companies in the life science industry are quite familiar to the process of outsourcing. They outsource some of their critical process like drug discovery, product manufacture, clinical trials and data management. Thus the mainstream BPO service providers requires special knowledge and skill set to perform the traditional life science functions such as clinical data management and monitoring of drug safety.
India happens to be one of the most attractive destination for such specialized functions due to low cost benefits and availability of high skilled work force.
Today, the Indian BPO companies are creating comprehensive roles for employees by expanding globally and providing them the opportunity to work on multiple verticals. It is indeed a fast growing industry as it provides ample opportunity for growth and entrepreneurship.
This change in the role of BPO sector from transaction-processing to high end specialized services has led to the growing demand of skilled workforce. Today the industry needs capability development. Even the professionals with degrees like M.tech, MBBS, MBA, CA, ICWA are taking up work in domain specific back office processes in advisory, analytical and consulting arena. This requires a clear relationship between IT/BPO industry and the academic world which train the workforce with industry specific jobs.
Nowadays even parents are becoming more supportive to the youngsters who want to join the BPO industry because they genuinely see it as a long term career. There is a realization that, BPO are not only about call centers but providing the right opportunities, skills and global exposure. In a nutshell the employees in the BPO industry are now getting challenging careers with tremendous job opportunities,hands-on experience, information about the culture and customs of various countries across the globe. This experience in understanding and appreciation of diversity is valuable for their personal as well professional growth.
Of late, BPO industry does get support from reputed academia. There are companies who provide training programmes specifically designed for the BPO sector in collaboration with some of the renowned institutions of India. More courses of this nature are being designed by other companies to provide outsourcing services. This one step forward towards making BPO as a long term career opportunity.

Online Freelance Jobs Career

Get Freelance Jobs Online

You don't have to leave your home to get started on promoting your freelance services. If your PC or laptop has an internet connection, it's easy to link up with people actively looking for service providers. How? Sign up to an online service marketplace.
What is an online service marketplace?
Also called service auction sites, these are sites that connect buyers needing services, and service providers looking for projects. It's simple how these sites work: a buyer posts a description of what kind of service he or she is looking for, and freelancers from all over the world can present their bid. If a buyer likes your proposal, he or she will then award you the project, and you can both can commence work.
There are sites that post jobs in different categories; from web design to programming, from writing to administrative support. There are also sites that are exclusive for a specific profession, e.g. an exclusive online marketplace for programming work.
Wait! Are these sites safe?
The community policies itself through buyer and service provider feedback, similar to the system of Ebay. A good track record of paying providers and positive comments usually mean that a buyer is trustworthy. Similarly, an excellent track record of completed projects with positive feedback usually mean that a service provider can be relied on.
All payment and communication are done within the sites for added security. Third party sites, like escrow, manages financial transactions to protect both the buyer and the service provider. The security of the site itself is typically verified by online safety and privacy certification sites like VeriSign or TrustE.
This said, it doesn't mean that there are no buyers or providers who register on the site to defraud members, nor does it mean that the site can't be hacked. You have to be careful and conduct independent investigation on a buyer before accepting a project.
Similarly, disputes can happen between buyers and providers over the course of the project that can prove costly. The extent the management of online marketplaces arbitrates on contract disputes and provides insurance for lost data or money varies from site to site.
In general though, these sites are safe as long as you exercise caution and follow site rules and regulations.
Sign me up! Where can I find these online service marketplaces?
Active online marketplaces include:
Elance
Elance is one of the best thriving service marketplaces around, in the sense that there are new job postings almost every hour. Membership is free, and comes with 10 connects (bidding currency) per month with the option to upgrade for a small fee (the lowest paid membership package is $9.95). This makes Elance one of the more beginner-friendly auction site, as you can start aggressively bidding on projects paying zero to just minimal registration fees.
The site deducts some 6.75 to 8.75% (the rate depends on your lifetime earnings) of the money that you make, presumably for web hosting, customer support, escrow etc. As with most auction sites, service rates range from low ball to reasonable with the occasional high paying gigs --- so price your services accordingly.
Great site features: a chatroom for buyers and providers to unwind and socialize, as well as safety nets against unpaid work samples, academic projects and plagiarism.
Guru
Guru is as active as Elance, and offers roughly the same range of projects and benefits. Membership is also free and comes with 10 bidding units/ month. Guru, however, restricts bidding for non-paid memberships (making unpaid membership basically useless), so if you're interested in just "feeling around the site", you might not be able to get a gig.
The site also deducts some 5-10% from your project earnings (the rate depends on your kind of membership). Bank fees can also be deducted depending on buyer's credit card provider.
Guru offers a higher number of bidding units per subscription, almost three times that of Elance. Guru also asks for a flat rate of one bidding unit/ project, unlike Elance which asks for more connects for higher-paying gigs or featured project. The catch: the minimum subscription you can buy is a 3-month one ($75).
Guru's system both works for you and against you. On one hand, you get more bid units per month than what you can use, and thus you can bid on all the projects that catches your fancy --- with extra to spare. On the flipside, however, bidding in Guru is much more competitive compared to Elance. There can be more than 100 other service-providers gunning for the same project as you, while Elance's averages from 10-30 depending on the work.
Great features: option to unpublish negative feedback, ability to post multiple profiles for the same job category.
Freelancer (formerly GetAFreelancer)
Freelancer is another active service marketplace offering both free and paid (called Gold Membership) subscriptions. Compared to Elance and Guru, Freelancer just asks for a 3% commission from what you earn if you're a Gold Member ($19.95/month). Jobs in Freelancer (as well as in oDesk below), however, tend to pay lower rates relative to Elance and Guru--- and the competition is much more cutthroat.
A main difference Freelancer has over the first two sites discussed is the ability to work in several categories without having to pay extra. In Elance and Guru, you have to select just one category, say "Web Design" to work on. If you want to bid on other categories, that's an additional fee. Free membership in Freelancer, however, allows you to pick from 25 subcategories of work, while Gold memberships 50 subscategories. Therefore you can be a writer, a web designer and a virtual assistant with just one profile.
oDesk
Unlike Elance, Guru and Freelancer, oDesk doesn't have paid membership options; non-paying and paying members get the same benefits and privileges. This is great for people testing the waters, those who are interested in just the occasional freelance gig, or those who don't want to shell out on monthly memberships. The site does ask, however, for a flat 10% commission on all work done, a higher commission compared to Elance's 6.75-8.75% cut, Guru's 5-10% and Freelancer's 3 percent.
oDesk is another cutthroat bidding site (low-ball bids, lots of competition) --- but there are plenty of jobs to choose from if you don't have a high hourly rate. It's main selling feature: a unique interface that allows buyers to view at any time what you are working on and track hours spent on a task. This feature is a great idea for transparency --- buyers know exactly how much each of their paid time is being spent, and providers know how much exactly they should bill. But of you're the kind of worker who likes to browse random sites and answer IMs while you work, then the oDesk system might not be for you.
Hmm...Are online service marketplaces really for me?
You know what, you're the only one who can answer this question.
The benefit of service auction sites is the convenience of finding projects postings in just one place. The bane of auction sites is that it forces you to present your best offer to buyers --- and most of the time, this means lowering your rates or doing more than the usually do/ hourly rate. You compete with providers all over the world --- so if you're from a first world country, expect to have to compete with a third world provider who can do the same job for less.
Which is not to say that providers with above average rates don't thrive in these marketplaces. Targeted bidding, specialized services, awesome proposals and consistent work quality can get you a reliable above-par income in these sites. You may even function as a team manager, and source and outsource work instead providing direct services.

A Great Opportunity for Software Engineer

Computer Software Engineer Jobs - Are You Interested in a Career As a Software Engineer?

Computer software engineers are responsible for using mathematics and computer science in order to develop and test computer programming. They will have the primary responsibility of developing a number of different programs, which can include word processing applications and computer games, in addition to operating systems and network applications.
Computer engineering professionals will first analyze the needs of their clients, and then they will create a detailed set of algorithm instructions which can include programming, although this will usually be outsourced to computer programmers. Applications software engineers will often use raw codes such as Java, in order to create applications software, while system engineers will often help a corporation organize its operating systems.
Systems software will usually require a lot of tinkering in order to make sure that it can be utilized effectively by corporations, and engineers will frequently need to modify operating systems and programming in order to meet the needs of their clients.
These individuals will usually work in teams which can include marketing departments, manufacturing, engineering, designers, and artists, in order to work together to bring a software product to market.
System software engineers may work alone depending on the size of the business that their servicing, and they may have assistants underneath them in order to perform the more routine tasks of installing operating systems and other systems applications.
These individuals will frequently work 40 hours a week in clean and comfortable office environments, although they may experience repetitive motion strain and back discomfort. Most employers will require a bachelor's degree and experience in computer programming, and four fifths of all software engineers had at least a bachelors degree.
In 2006, software engineers had about 850,000 jobs in America, with most working on applications, and about a third working on systems software. A minority of these individuals are freelance computer programmers. Job prospects overall are expected to be quite good and this field will be one of the fastest areas of growth in America over the next decade.

Computer Forensic Career

Computer Forensics Jobs

Computer forensics is a fast-growing career field, offering immense potential for jobs in law enforcement, military, intelligence agencies, corporations, and businesses. The job opportunities are skyrocketing, commensurate with the rapid spurt in computer crimes.
Computer crimes, in the beginning, had only a sporadic occurrence. Now, it has become a fact of life that has to be dealt with by law enforcement agencies. As computer applications and the Internet have become inseparable parts of life, the instances of wrong-doing with the help of computers are the order of the day.
For tackling crimes, the computers themselves have to be scanned thoroughly to determine whether they have been used for illegal or unauthorized activities or frauds.
This can be done only by computer forensic experts who gain the tools through on-the-job experience, certification programs, and other qualifications.
Computer forensic professionals are known by many titles, such as computer forensic investigators, digital media analysts, and digital forensics detectives. Each one describes the same career as it is concerned with the investigation of digital media.
A computer forensic specialist earns salaries ranging from $85,000 to $120,000 per year, depending upon one’s skills and experience and the company and organizations he works for. Private companies offer more lucrative salaries than law enforcement agencies.
A graduate degree in computer forensics can help advance the career, making one eligible for positions as forensic team leaders or bureau supervisors. Fifty percent of FBI jobs require computer forensic applications.
Consulting is an attractive field for computer forensic professionals, as they are independent and free agents. They take up assignments at will and charge hefty sums for their time spent on the job. They bill the client per hour. The hourly remuneration ranges from $375 to $600, depending upon the kind of job they complete.
There will be an ever-increasing demand for qualified security and computer forensic professionals. Computer and networking skills no longer suffice as security is of prime importance for the server, work station, or router.

Management Jobs A Complete Analysis

The Different Types of Management Jobs

What is it about management jobs that people are always aspiring towards? Is it the perks that come with the position, such as an attractive pay package, discounts (where applicable), power of authority, challenging goals to reach etc? Whatever the reasons maybe behind people desiring the role of an authoritarian-type role in any business, it is one thing to desire a role and another to actually fulfil the demands of a manager.

For people keen on taking on management jobs will need to take into consideration the varying roles management positions take on. Take for instance management in the retail industry, this role may be very customer-centred and may require plenty of customer interaction, communication amongst people and of course managing staff so that they reach target sales. However, within the retail industry there are different managerial roles for instance assistance managers, duty managers, deputy area managers, area managers and regional managers. Each role is a step up from the other and requires a lot of retail experience for people to move up in the career ladder.

Management within the healthcare industry would be different to that of the retail industry. Healthcare management is an extremely demanding job and requires extensive knowledge of everything medical related. Things like hospital management requires the manager to be on top form when managing staff, keeping on top of medical supplies, working within budgets, monitoring hospital care and patient care, dealing with patient issues, dealing with legal issues, administrating hospitals and healthcare networks, and leadership of healthcare professionals. This is just one aspect of healthcare management and could encompass much more than what is stated above.

Other management jobs could be in a standard corporate environment, whereby the role could be to draw up plans, manage projects, reach to target goals, forecast the financial market in the future, scope competitive companies, predict the target market direction, coming up with marketing strategies and more. Depending on the management jobs you are interested in it could take you a matter of months or years to reach to that level.

The key thing to remember is for you to show tenacity, motivation, working to your own initiative, expert knowledge of the field you intend work in and plenty of experience from working within that industry. People tend not to take on a role without having prior experience in the field that they are going to work in, otherwise they will be faced with a big surprise. Some may be able to take on a completely new role and pick things up quickly without any supervision however not everybody are as gifted and talented as this.

The fact remains for a person to work in a managerial role without having worked in the company they are applying for, they will need to present a resume that exhibits many years of experience as well as in-depth knowledge of the industry. Most employers will not take the risk of hiring an inexperienced person unless they impress them so much on the day of the interview and can demonstrate a high level of intelligence!

A Review on Corporate Career Development

Corporate Career Development Networking

As a natural part of my empowerment consulting practice, I often find myself in discussions with my clients about their jobs and careers. Sometimes we talk about new jobs or job opportunities; sometimes we talk about promotions; sometimes we talk about careers over the long-term.

These are all very different types of conversations. Most of my clients who are in corporations are mid-level to senior-level managers, who are competent and have already proven their value to the company. I also work with clients who are outside the corporate structure or are consultants to corporations, with whom career development conversations are different.

It is common for people to want to have a career development plan. Many think that those successful individuals who have preceded them in the corporation had a plan to get where they got. Some did, but quite honestly, it is easier for them to claim that they had a plan with the benefit of hindsight and success than to produce the plan they wrote years before.

There is a whole field of professionals who offer career development resources and consulting. I think their services can be extremely valuable, especially when moving from one company to another. I am more familiar with helping people to advance and develop careers within the same company, as an integral part of my consultations. And so, that is my focus in this article.

In these client conversations about career development within the same company, I usually fairly quickly replace the concept of a "career development plan" with a "career networking plan" or a "career development networking plan."

I’ve been working with a client who has been kicking and screaming about the idea of networking. She has been doing excellent work and feels she should be promoted based on her work. In one way, she’s absolutely correct. However, at her level in the organization, not only are there fewer openings, but a group of disparate persons with their own agendas usually decides about promotions and job changes.

When multiple persons with all different needs are involved in such a decision, there must be agreement that she is the one to promote or accept or move. Such a scenario usually requires more than doing the requisite job skills well. In most cases, the "more" comes down to ongoing activities she must be engaged in: networking and building authentic relationships.

I want to be clear, when I speak about career development networking, I do not mean to start networking to get a job that is now in the interview stage; my view is that this narrow type of networking is more appropriately called "lobbying." Instead, I am speaking about networking over the years — building relationships that are two-way, developing collaborative partnerships, feeling appreciation about interactions, expressing sincere congratulations when others are promoted, and engaging in conversations about a variety of topics.

When many individuals are all well-qualified for a job, something "more" must stand out in the final candidate. This "more" may be related to job accomplishments, but likely, the "more" is related to relationships — perhaps the one who is best known, or the one who is most liked, or the one who has consistently good interactions with others.

The candidate who is well-networked is likely to increase the chances that all the decision-makers will agree, "this is the one." There might sometimes be a thrill about a hotly contested position, but all things considered, the best transitions take place when there’s general agreement to select the final candidate.

Career Development Networking — a Starting Plan

First of all, it’s important that you think of networking as two-way! This is essential. The word "networking" has become rather polluted by the way some persons are using this word. Use the word however you want, but please understand that here I am using it to mean an exchange. Be pragmatic, of course, but understand that you are only "networked" if a two-way connection is happening. This is absolutely essential to understand, if you want to make this an empowering practice.

In my empowerment consulting sessions, I’m often coaching clients about the best persons to network with, the subjects to speak about, and how to speak about the subjects. Those who are a little shy or reticent about speaking with someone at much higher levels sometimes just need this added encouragement to take the step to network.

Many successful people already understand the need to network within their company. They probably don’t need a plan. Some jobs require that individuals know, interact, and partner with others in the company, and so they are usually well-networked naturally. If the company is large, though, there are many persons outside the scope of the current job who are potentials for expanding a network.

Here is a simple approach to getting started. Make two lists of persons in your company. The first is a list of the persons you already know and like. The second is a list of the persons you believe can, at some time, help you in your career — you may already know them or not. It is o.k. to have the same person on both lists; in fact, this strategy depends on that!

The intersecting subset of those two lists is the starting place. In other words, start your networking plan with the persons you like, whom you think can help you in your career. You will have more success by starting where it is easiest. Keep your lists updated over time, so that this is an organic process.

The next step is to decide, person by person, how and how often to network. Again, start where it is easiest. If you have regular meetings with someone on your target list, sit near the person, or suggest that you have lunch afterward, or take an interesting article to give to the person. If you consider you are already actively networking with this person, you may not need to adjust any actions. Just be certain to keep the person on your radar screen.

For best results, keep a journal of your networking. In your journal or on your calendar, make a notation for yourself for your next contact. By all means, do not over-commit yourself to starting to build too many new relationships at the same time. As a relationship is in the stage where either you and the other person are at ease to "call anytime," you have built a relationship, so continuing it is easier.

Still, most of the sizeable offshore outsourcing firms seek to develop and improve their quality management process as well as receive international accreditation , such as, for example, ISO 9001. Around 50 per cent of all companies worldwide, which correspond to the USA Software Engineering Institute's Capability Maturity Model standards are situated in India.
